UMANG is a NON-PROFIT secular organization dedicated to socio-economic change in India, as in by fighting poverty, ignorance and apathy, offering free health care and specialized and technical education for those who need it, in the belief that EDUCATION is a critical requisite for socio-economic change, regardless of race, class, culture or religion.
We would like to introduce ourselves as a GROUP dedicated towards EDUCATING / INFORMING our INDIAN SOCIETY on our DIFFERENTLY ABLED CHILDREN (SPECIAL CHILDREN / ADULTS with Behaviour Problems and Multiple Disabilities, like Autism, Slow Learners, Aspergers Syndrome, ADHD, Mental Retardation, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Hearing, Speech and Visual Impairment, etc.) AFTER ALL WHY CAN'T THESE CHILDREN BE ACCEPTED AS A PART OF OUR INDIAN SOCIETY ?
Early Intervention for Young Children with Disabilities:
The purpose of the Early Intervention and Assessment for Young Children with Disabilities: Special Education Research program is to contribute to the improvement of cognitive, linguistic, social, and emotional outcomes of young children with disabilities or to prevent the development of learning disabilities by identifying curriculum and instructional practices that are potentially effective for improving cognitive, linguistic, social, and emotional outcomes of young children with disabilities developing new, or modifying existing, preschool curricula, including appropriate teacher professional development, to address the cognitive, linguistic, social, and emotional needs of young children with disabilities or at risk for learning disabilities establishing the efficacy of existing preschool curricula for or teacher professional development for teaching young children with disabilities or young children at high risk for learning disabilities;
providing evidence on the effectiveness of preschool curricula or teacher professional development implemented at scale that are designed to address the cognitive, linguistic, social, and emotional needs of young children with disabilities or at high risk for learning disabilities and developing and validating early assessment tools that can be used by practitioners to identify and monitor preschool children who are in need of intensive early intervention.
Interventions appropriate for development and/or evaluation under this program are interventions intended to improve cognitive, linguistic, social, and emotional outcomes of children with disabilities or children at high risk for disabilities in pre-kindergarten or kindergarten.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy with its unique non-pharmalogical, exercise-oriented natural approach has assumed the role of non-separable entity to the treatment. Helping the special children to himself, to defeat overcome his disability and also to become an independent individual in the society – this approach is particularly rewarding in rehabilitation program in such diseases as Polio mellitus, Cerebral Palsy, Peripheral Nerve Palsy etc. Splints and other Prosthesis are also very much essential to prevent deformity like Foot drop.
The movement between surfaces favor the prevention of healthy articular cartilage.
Any immobile and discussed limb (specially far a long period) tends to suffer Edema, Wasting, of muscles and stiffness of the joints with prolonged or even permanent impairment of function.
But such disasters are now rare due to appreciated ‘Physiotherapy’ treatment.
This treatment contributes significantly not only in the achievement of physical independence but indirectly acts as a main augmenting force to improve vocational potentials and psychological status leading to the attainment of social security.
As it is a team-work method, General doctors, specialists like Orthopedics, ..., Speech Therapist, Special Educators, Attendants, Social Workers etc. are the members of their special team.

Speech Therapy
The profession of Audiologist offers both; the stature and the job satisfaction and is mainly suitable for those who feel joy in helping others. To practice audiology, a person needs to have either Bachelors / Masters Degree in Audiology and be registered with Indian Speech and Hearing Association (ISHA) or Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). There is a number of government and private health care agencies in which provide speech and hearing services.
A degree in speech and hearing is recognized both in India and overseas for practice as speech and hearing expert. Candidates having degree in speech and hearing can get employment in different government and private institutions.
Speech Therapy
This course will teach the students Yoga postures such as the tree, snake, mountain, and lion. Yoga improves balance and coordination. Yoga teaches control of ones feelings and provides relaxation. Yoga fosters language skills.
Down syndrome is a congenital disability with an overall incidence of one in every 700 births. The incidence of Down syndrome in children born to 25 year old mothers is approximately 1 in 1200; the risk increases to approximately 1 in 350 for 35 year olds and approximately 1 in 120 for women older than 40 years. The chromosomal abnormality involved in most cases of Down syndrome is trisomy 21. As a result, the affected person has 47 chromosomes in all body cells, instead of the normal 46.
Special Education
Autistic Support: serves children with pervasive developmental spectrum disorders. These classrooms primarily serve students with autism. The focus of this program is to teach academic skills, communication skills, social skills and functional skills through research-based methodologies to meet individual student needs.
Clinical and Prison Services Program: provides facility-based classes serving students throughout Lancaster and Lebanon counties. Sites include programs for students with emotional disturbance disability and severe mental health issues, for students with mental retardation and emotional disturbance with the goal of developing self-sufficiency, and for incarcerated students 21 and younger at the Lebanon County Correctional Facility and the Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center.
Physical Support: designed primarily to serve students with orthopedic impairments or other health impairments. These students may be medically fragile or need extensive training in assistive devices. Classes for students with physical disabilities stress academic instruction, daily living skills and communication.
